Best practice for leveraging a GPS fence to bulk-import photos captured within a project's boundaries

Problem: It’s all too common for project team members to capture their own project photos on their own phones with the native camera app, and such photos ending up in some unorganized folder.

Capturing a photo normally with the native camera app

Most of these photos remain unorganized and not shared with project shareholders

Did you know that any photo captured with the regular camera app (on an iPhone or iPad with 4G) automatically has GPS coordinates attached to it?

Solution: We now allow you to leverage a project GPS fence to bulk-import project photos onto a drawing, based on GPS and compass orientation! We can now intelligently pull photos captured within the project’s boundaries - without your personal photos coming along with it!

ONLY photos captured within the GPS fence will be imported. This is especially useful if you use your phone for capturing photos at other jobsites, or if you capture photos for personal use (as in the case with your phone).

Note: This will currently work with photos captured on an iPhone or 4G-capable iPad. This will not work on iPads that do not have data service capability.

Note 2: This feature is only available on project team or company plans!

How to use it:

  1. Choose a good drawing to use that clearly shows the project's boundaries. The example below should accurately capture photos within a project.

Note 1: The corners of the drawing will be used as the "boundaries" of the GPS fence. So a drawing that contains more of the site is better. Drawings that contain just the building may not fully capture all photos in the project.
Note2 : Most mobile devices GPS is accurate to +/- 15 feet when outdoors (depending on surrounding buildings), and is significantly degraded indoors (+/- 30+ feet), so consider placement of photos as good enough to know it's within the project. Consider this as more of a "bucket" for photos. You should not use it for normal StructionSite photo capture for organizational purposes.

3. Switch to "Standard" Mode while viewing the drawing

4. Tap the bulk import button on the bottom left. Select "Allow Access to Photos" if prompted

5. Choose "Upload Photos"

6. Pick which photos you'd like to upload. You may click on a date to select or deselect all photos taken on that date

7. Wait while photos get placed onto the drawing. Photos are placed roughly based on GPS coordinates and compass orientation captured when the photos were taken

8. Sync photos like normal
