Ready to hit the ground running with VideoWalk®? Let’s get started! After creating your project in StructionSite, it’s time to upload your project drawing before you head to the jobsite. To ensure that the data transfers and is mapped accurately, make sure your drawing matches the existing construction conditions that you’re capturing.
Here’s what we recommend you use:
Interior walks: Use architectural drawings of the overall floor plan. This should include walls and major structural elements.
Exterior walks: Use the overall site plan, which should include existing conditions such as streets, sidewalks or fencing.
You can use an enlarged floor plan, but make sure you’re ONLY walking in the area shown on the floor plan. If your walk is in the building, make sure to stay within the building footprint.
If you aren’t using architectural or interior drawings, the drawing needs to show the clear layout of the building and floor plan without obstructions. Examples of drawings you can use include: electrical, furniture layout and structural drawings.
Examples of Optimal Drawing Types
Architectural or interior, or overall floor plan (not enlarged): This floor plan shows you everything on a given floor.
Architectural = GOOD
Interior Floor Plan = GOOD
Enlarged Floor Plan = NOT IDEAL
Civil, landscaping or general overall site plan: This needs to show the building footprint or existing landmarks so you can see where the building is going to be on the site, especially if excavation is underway, in order to show context.
Landscape Overall Site Plan = GOOD
Overall Site Plan = GOOD
Civil Grading Plan = NOT IDEAL
Demolition or Existing Conditions
Demolition floor plans: This should show where the existing walls are or are being removed. Make sure that the conditions of the area you’re walking matches the drawing. As construction progresses, you can slip sheet or move content to the latest drawing. (Interior demo drawing example below.)
Demolition of civil, landscaping or general overall site plans: This should show where the existing buildings or conditions are being removed. Make sure that the conditions of the area you’re walking matches the drawing. As construction progresses, you can slip sheet or move content to the latest drawing. (Exterior demo drawing example below.)
What NOT to Use
Avoid using civil or grading drawings that only show the grading and excavation and not the building, structural drawings that only show the structural members, and MEP sheets that block the floor plan layout.
